About the Founder of LIBA

Jacqueline Jumbe-Kahura, Kenya

She is teacher by profession and currently a volunteer teacher of Makonjemare primary school in rural part of Kilifi County, Kenya and Founder and Executive Director of Lifting the Barriers, an Education and development Foundation based in rural Kenya.
She holds a Masters Degree in Education and International Development from the Institute of Education (IOE), University of London and an MA in Project Planning and Management from University of Nairobi. She has 11 fulfilling years in teaching and another 13 years working in senior management with INGO.
Jacque has innovated several school programs and campaigns like Learning Companion, Every Girl…Campaign, Partnership for More Joint Action (PAMOJA), on HIV/AIDs Prevention and Management, Weekend Inclusive and School Holiday (W.I.S.H) project and Teachers as Trainers, Educators, Administrators, Caregivers and Healers (T.T.E.A.C.H).
She is the author of Walimu Kwanza! (Teachers First!) Newsletter for teachers by teachers.
In 2015, she was recognised as the Hero of Kilifi (Shujaa wa Kilifi) by H.E The Governor of Kilifi County for her work in education.
In March 2015, she was in the Top 10 Global Teacher Prize nominees of Varkey Foundation being the only Kenyan and African. She seats in the County Education Board and serves in several school boards of management. In addition to working with schools, she enjoys supporting women move from apathy to self reliance through training, coaching and mentoring. She is working on her first book, Beyond Exams!
